Cress by Marissa Meyer | Book Review

I mentioned this in my Scarlet review a few days ago, but these books just keep getting better and better with each installment. I flew through this book and I adored it, especially a certain few characters!

In this book, Cress is our new protagonist and I absolutely love her. I think Cress might be my favorite character yet because she’s SO adorable and relatable. She’s fiercely protective of those who she loves, brave in her own way, absolutely adorable, and such a fun character to read from. Then we have the best relationship (in my opinion) in the series yet, Cress and Thorne.  They are so cute and I loved how their relationship developed. Cress was in love with the Thorne she saw on her netscreens and then they both fell in love with the person they met in the desert. LITERALLY SO CUTE.

All of the other members of our crew are here too and they all are fantastic once again. Kai and Cinder are so cute (everyone is cute and adorable. I’m dying in adorableness over here) and their reunion felt so real because Kai had every right not to trust her right away. The whole mission of the crew in this book was addicting. Every chapter ended in a little bit of a cliff hanger and I got hooked almost right away. Once the whole mission started to come together in the last few hundreds pages, I could barely put the book down. It was so fast paced and yet nothing felt rushed or over done.

Speaking of characters, I loved seeing more of Iko in this book. I kind of loved her as a ship, but she was even better as an escort droid, courtesy of Thorne. She provided a much needed comic relief when things started to get tense and provided a great shoulder for Cinder to cry on.

Can we give Marissa Meyer a huge round of applause for the complexity of this series at this point? She has such a talent for incorporating the original fairy tale of Rapunzel along with the fantasy elements of her series like the Lunars, cyborgs, Lunar/Earthen politics, even more twists with the Lunar shells, and the stories of Cinder and Scarlet as well.

I honestly loved this installment of the Lunar Chronicles and I can’t wait to delve into Winter (which is suppose to come in the mail today!). Cress has just about everything, political intrigue, romance, kidnaps, torture, tragedy, and fantastic character development. I need Winter in my hands, like yesterday.
