15 Books for 2015

15 books for 2015As it is New Years Eve, 2015 will soon be over. This year has gone by insanely quick and for the most part, it’s been a pretty good year for me. There are several things I’d like to change in 2016, but I’ll talk about those later.

At the end of the year last year, I posted my top 14 books for 2014, so it only seems right that this year is the top 15 books for 2015 right? I feel like I’m going to regret this pattern in the years to come…

SIX OF CROWS BY LEIGH BARDUGO

six of crowsBringing up the first book in this list is one that I actually haven’t finished. I know it’s kind of weird, but I’m currently half way through this book and I’m absolutely loving it and since I’ve heard nothing but wonderful things about it from various people that I trust, I know I’m going to love it.

FLOWERS FOR ALGERNON BY DANIEL KEYES

flowers for algernon

Out of all the books, I’m actually the most surprised by this. I read this for school in my previous school year, and while I normally despise books that I have to read for school, Flowers for Algernon has still really stuck with me. It’s such a powerful book that deals with mental disabilities and what the world is really like.

VELVET BY TEMPLE WEST

velvetI picked up Velvet from the recommendation of a fellow blogger and I fell in love with it! The writing style is so quirky and and the book is filled with a great cast of characters, especially our swoon worthy male lead, Adrian.

SHADOW AND BONE BY LEIGH BARDUGO

Shadow and BoneWhile I found many problems with the later books in this series, Shadow and Bone introduced one of the coolest fantasy worlds that I’ve ever read. I absolutely adore the intricate world and class system that Bardugo built and I will always read more by her now, especially if it’s set in the fantastic Grisha world.

A COURT OF THORNS AND ROSES BY SARAH J. MAAS

a court of thorns and rosesYou all know my love for Sarah J. Maas and this first installment of her new series is no exception. I loved her twist of the Beauty and the Beast retelling and I can’t wait to read more of Feyre’s adventures in the Spring Court in A Court of Mist and Fury!

THE ONE THING BY MARCI LYN CURTIS

the one thingThis was a pretty recent read and while I’m not the biggest contemporary fan, I LOVED THIS NOVEL. It was unbelievably cute and made me actually laugh out loud, sigh like I’m in love, and cry all at the same time. Seriously, this was so cute and if you love contemporary check this one out!

A MONSTER CALLS BY PATRICK NESS

a monster callsThis book needs a warning for tissues or something, because it made me cry so hard. This was such a powerful and beautiful books and it’s one that everyone should read. Be warned, you might be in need of some chocolate and tissues by the end.

IGNITE ME BY TAHEREH MAFI

ignite meNot only do these books deserve the best cover award but Ignite Me obviously deserves the best series end award. This book shocked me because I despise the first two books but this one is SO good and I loved it to death. I read in one day and was in such a reading slump after finishing it. THIS is what I call a finale.

AN EMBER IN THE ASHES BY SABAA TAHIR

an ember in the ashesA truly hyped up book this year, but so deserving of the hype. I loved the writing style, characters, Roman backgrounds, and honestly so much more about this book. I’m so excited that Sabaa decided to write more books to make this into a series because I adore her writing style so so much.

QUEEN OF SHADOWS BY SARAH J. MAAS

queen of shadowsAgain, not the perfect sequel that I was hoping for in the Throne of Glass series, but this was still a phenomenal book and the fact that there is going to be two more books in this series makes me the happiest person alive. Maas is the queen (of shadows?) of writing high fantasy novels!

A DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE BY LAINI TAYLOR

daughter of smoke and boneTo start out my top 5 books of the year, we have this beautiful book. This had some of the most gorgeous metaphors tucked away in the story. I don’t think I’ve taken as many notes on a book as I have for A Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I’ve been meaning to get to the sequel forever now because I loved this book so much!

WINTER BY MARISSA MEYER

winterAnother fantastic series end came out in 2015! I basically marathoned the entire Lunar Chronicles this year and I’m so glad I did because this was a great book! The sheer length of the book did feel daunting at times, but other than that I devoured this book because of the intricate and awesome world that Meyer built.

THE ASSASSIN’S BLADE BY SARAH J. MAAS

assassin's bladeThis was by far my favorite Sarah J. Maas book I read this year! I loved getting to see more of Celaena’s back story and who the magnificent creature that is Sam Cortland is. Reading this before Queen of Shadows also helped to understand some of the characters 100x better, which I was very grateful for.

THE GAME OF LOVE AND DEATH BY MARTHA BROCKENBROUGH

the game of love and deathI truly wished that this book got more hype because it was so good. A historical fiction that has personified forms of love and death, games between two supernatural beings, an adorkable love story, 1940s jazz music, and it deals with the touchy subjects of race since our main couple is a black woman and a white male. There’s so much to love about this book and I think everyone should read it!

CRESS BY MARISSA MEYER

cressAnd my number one book of the year is… Cress! Out of all the books in the Lunar Chronicles, this is by far my favorite. I adore Cress as a character and find her immensely relatable. Plus, Cress and Thorne are my new OTP forever, they are the cutest little thing to exist. I loved this book so very much and the characters probably even more! Here’s to hoping the wedding in Stars Above will be for Cress and Thorne!
