A Very Magical Identity Crisis (Ilvermorny + Hogwarts House) | Tea Time Talk

tea time talk

I have a story for you all. With the recent news about Ilvermorny and the reveal of their houses, I was curious where I’d place in the wizarding school that I would’ve (and still will… I’m waiting Isolt!) gone to. So I finally caved and made a Pottermore account to find this out. While I’m there, I might as well get my official Hogwarts house, right?

Well let me tell you, I took it and I was very surprised because it wasn’t what I was expecting at all. I’m going through a bit of an identity crisis over here and I know all of you fellow Harry Potter fans will understand.

Now. I’ve lived my past 8 or 9 years believing that I was a Ravenclaw. Of course little 9 year old me was sad because I wanted to be in Gryffindor, just like Harry! However, I grew to accept my internet placed house (because my letter is still lost in the mail) of Raveclaw, and I eventually loved it. And here go with the J.K. Rowling official test and I wasn’t placed in Ravenclaw. You can imagine my surprise.

What house was I placed in may you ask? Hufflepuff!

Never in my Harry Potter filled life was I expecting to be placed in Hufflepuff. Gryffindor, unlikely but it’s a possibility. Slytherin? Sure I can be a bit sly to get what I need. I never put myself as a good finder someone that was known for being loyal and patient.

After reading the letter from the prefect on the site (which was hilarious and adorable), I think I’m warming up to my new house. We’re the unknown house, that’s a bit shrouded in mystery… and I love it. The common room sounds absolutely gorgeous and I love how you have to pass a little test to get inside. The consequence of getting this test wrong is getting soaked with vinegar, which is quite unpleasant. I also like to think that Hufflepuffs befriend the house elves and they help us sneak food out of the kitchen into the common room, where some awesome parties go down.

I honestly love how Hufflepuffs are a bit of a mix between all of the houses, bringing the best characteristics from each into their own. I think I can accept and love my new house. To all of my fellows Puffs out there…534b36bcecc5036781c143954ad06155Now for the main reason I actually got on Pottermore! I wanted to read more about Ilvermorny and find out what my house is for that school. I love the backstory for the magical school. It’s based purely on the power of family and love (which just like how Lily saved Harry, it’s how Isolt and her family saved their hard work). J.K. Rowling, can we get a series with Isolt as the protagonist? Please?

PM_Ilvermorny_House_Crest_Horned_SerpentAnyways, my house is Horned Serpent! I think it’s so cool how the Ilvermorny houses represent the entire body, with Horned Serpent representing the mind, Wampus representing the body, Pukwudgie representing the heart, and finally Thunderbird the soul. If you aren’t aware (or forgot) Horned Serpent favors scholars, which fills my empty of identity of not being a Ravenclaw (but in a new and exciting way!) Plus, Isolt chose the the Horned Serpent as her animal, and who doesn’t want to be in the house the founder of the school made?

My favorite part about Ilvermorny, at least from what we know right now, is the sorting process. When a student is being sorted, the animals will choose if they want the student or not. This means that a student can be placed into more than one house (rare case of sometimes all four) and then they get to make the final decision. Harry would love this.

One final thing, if anyone is curious my wand is cedar wood with a Phoenix feather core, 12 3/4″ and reasonably supple flexibility. Cedar wand holders apparently have a frightening arsenal of spells, so it’s wise not to cross them, and how cool is it that I have a Phoenix core? It’s probably not a feather from Fawkes, but that’s still pretty rad.

So let me know what house you’ve been placed in for both schools! And to all of my fellow Hufflepuffs and Horned Serpents out there, rock on!

  1. Cool post!

This was me two weeks ago.
I used to think I was a Ravenclaw until I took the quiz and found out that I’m Slytherin. I’ve gotten over it. LoL.

But I’m Thunderbird, which I absolutely love. I’m totally ” the soul”. LoL.

    Nice post!
