My Favorite Ships That Sank Like The Titanic | Top 5 Wednesday

top-5-wednesday-10_19

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly book meme created by gingerreadslainey and hosted by Sam @ThoughtsOnTomes. You find out more about T5W and the weekly topics on the Goodreads group here.

This week’s topic is all about non-canon ships, and I love it.

These are the couples you love, but they never got together in canon (canon meaning: what actually happened in the text). Or that did get together, but weren’t together in the end of the series. Or a couple you ship but it’s actually impossible for them to be together because they are from different worlds, franchises, etc. Let your shipper heart run wild. I know mine will.

I decided to keep this topic in between characters from the same books/series. Be warned, there will be rants. (Yeah, there’s overlapping books from last week- sorry!)

october-19

Nikolai Lantsov and Alina Starkov- I will forever 100% be mad that this was not the main relationship of this series. I don’t even know how long ago I read these books now- 1 or 2 years, but I still ship these two hardcore. Mal sucks, the Darkling has always been kinda meh in my mind, but Nikolai is a precious little gem. #Nikolai4lyfe

Rose Hathaway and Adrian Ivashkov- If you’ve read literally any of my six Vampire Academy book reviews, you may have picked up that I absolutely despise Rose and Dimitri’s stupid relationship. Rose may have treated Adrian like crap, but they worked so much better in my opinion.

Simon Lewis and Maia Roberts- I adore Simon and Izzy, but as they are very canon, they don’t count for this. However, I did really like Simon and Maia together. Maia was his first real relationship getting over Clary, and I appreciated the fact how Clare handled the mess of a vampire and a werewolf dating.

Celaena Sardothien and Chaol Westfall- Real talk time. I don’t like Rowan and Aelin one bit, but more on that when I actually get around to finishing Empire of Storms. When reading the first three books, I was a hardcore Chaolaena fan. I think their personalities fit and they had some fun, witty banter.

Eadlyn Schreave and Kile Woodwork- While I did like who Eadlyn chose in the end of this duology, I do have to admit that she and Kile had an actual relationship, and I suppose they were pretty cute together. I’m sure America liked Kile better, considering he was Marlee’s son.

  1. Yes! Another Rose and Adrian fan!! 😀 And I also like Nikolai and Alina together. Never liked Mal, but I do like the Darkling. Any guy would have been better than Mal actually LOL. And I totally forgot about Maia and Simon, but I always thought they were cute together 🙂 Awesome post!

    1. Lord agree. Mal was the reason I stopped reading that series lmao.

I was never hard-core into Rose and Dimitri but because Adrian and Sydney are one of my otps forever, I can’t super get behind him and rose

      1. I didn’t even read the last book of the series because of Mal. I just had my friends tell me what happened LOL XD I just couldn’t do it anymore. But I think I might read it soon because I hate leaving a trilogy unfinished. And I haven’t read Bloodlines yet but I fully support Adrian and Sydney. He needs a girl like her to help him out haha

  2. OH, I know right! Chaol and Celaena were soulmates! I’m still kind of weirded out that Rowan is her distant cousin(they are right?), but oh well, there is nothing left to do but cry now ;_;

  3. I’m sorry, I just don’t get why people love the idea of Adrian and Rose so much. I respect your opinion but, I’m sorry. Yeah, at times it was fun to watch, but it never felt like it could be long term. Adrian said it himself, she was his strength, and Rose needs an equal. Adrian simply “Wanted” and “Needed” Rose. She needs a stand up guy, and Adrian is not a stand up guy. Dimitri trusted and respected Rose and always treated her as an equal. He understood her in ways that not even Lissa did, and those witches were literally bonded. I didn’t even like Dimitri half of the time, but I can’t deny the fact that they belong together.

    My T5W! 😀

    1. I totally get it, and you do make some really valid points. Yes, I do believe Rose and Dimitri belonged together in the end, but I have so many issues getting over the age gap and how it’s portrayed for young readers, that any distraction from their relationship (ie Adrian) was welcome to me.

      1. I guess the age gap didn’t really bother me because #1 they aren’t really human so our rules don’t apply, and also she was almost 18 if that helps 😉 But I do get what you are saying, because a lot of teens won’t see it that way. They’ll just see and teen with a grown man! It does look bad :\

  4. I totally agree with all of these…except Izzy and Simon. I really like those two together but you raise a valid point about him and Maia and the need for their relationship.

I was a fan of Eadlyn and Kile together. I thought their relationship had more substance to it. Who she ended up with didn’t really work for me.

As for Celaena, I will always be Team Sam for her. I think they were the best fit by far. But I was a fan of her an Chaol–until his character had his midlife crisis or whatever the hell that was in Heir of Fire (or was is Queen of Shadows–honestly, that series is all one big blur when it comes to what happens and when).

    1. Ah don’t get me wrong, I adore Simon and Izzy so much! I just also liked Simon and Maia and was a bit disappointed when they broke up.
Oh my gosh. I can NOT believe I forgot about Sam! I loved him so much, I honestly think The Assassin’s Blade broke my heart the most. I totally agree, they were meant for each other. And yes, I agree.. Celaena/Whatever/Aelin is a mess now 😂
