Welcome to TBR of Shame, where I share all the books on my TBR that really should’ve been read by now. On this lovely edition of shamefulness, I want to share all the unfinished series that I hope to read and complete this year.
ALL THE UNFINISHED SERIES
These are the series that I own the entire thing, or as many that have been currently released. I’ve also read at least one book in the series, and have yet to finish it.
A DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE
I read the first book in this series in August of 2015. Yep, a whole year and a half ago. I have no clue why I haven’t continued with the series yet, I adored the first book and I’ve heard that the series only gets better as it goes on. This series is one of the most unique and complex mythology systems, and I’m actually really excited to read it. There’s only two more books, and yet there they are on my shelf, judging me. It’s been so long since I’ve read the first book that I can feel the other two judging me.
THE WINNER’S TRILOGY
I was so on top of things for a while on this series. I read the first one when it first came out, loved it, and was eagerly anticipating the sequel. The sequel came out, but I was reading so many other things at the time, so I set it aside for later. Weeks turned into months, and months turned into years… and 2 1/2 years later, I still haven’t read the next one. I own the whole series, I just have absolutely no clue what happened in the first one at this point. Just for your knowledge, I read The Winner’s Curse in October of 2014, when I was a wee little baby blogger.
RED QUEEN
Way back in March of 2015, I read Red Queen. I totally read it before all the hype, and felt so proud of myself for that, but I have yet to read Glass Sword. If you guessed that I own the book, and it’s sitting on my shelf waiting to be read… you’d be right. I honestly think I’d be okay simply reading the next book and not rereading Red Queen since the plot was so simple, but I’m curious to know what I’d think of it now after my reading tastes (aka pickiness) has developed more. However, I do wish to finish this series!
AN EMBER IN THE ASHES
I’m noticing a trend by this point. I read An Ember in the Ashes back in September 2015, and own A Torch Against the Night, but haven’t read it! In all honesty, I still feel like ATATN just came out, and there still seems to be a little bit of hype around it. I’m pretty sure I bought it relatively soon after the release, but haven’t had time to dedicate my soul to it (because I know that it will be a heart breaking book). I also just figured out that Sabaa Tahir is planning four books for this series? Yes! Remember when it was supposed to be a standalone? That plan went out the window, oh my gosh.
REMNANT CHRONICLES
Yikes, we’ve got another 2014 book creeping in here. I read The Kiss of Deception way back in August of 2014 (itty bitty 2 week old blogger!), and I remember that I loved it. I also remember that there is two males and one is a prince and one is an assassin. That’s about it. The problem with this series was that the gap between book releases was too long. I did start to read The Heart of Betrayal, but at the end of every chapter, my brain was basically like ???, so that wasn’t helpful. I actually don’t own the third one, but I so want to finish this series. However, I’m going to have to reread the first one.
A DARKER SHADE OF MAGIC
Alrighty, this one is different. You haven’t actually heard about this series from me yet (unless you follow me on Twitter @bookishteacups (sorry for the self promo, I love you all I promise)), but I have just started reading the first book and am thoroughly enjoying it. I can feel that I’m going to love this series, and since the third one comes out so soon, it’s the perfect time to read them. I don’t want to wait 2 1/2 more years to finish this one…
The Winner’s Trilogy is one I’ve heard nothing but good things about, but at the same time I have zero idea what it’s about š I’d like to try it at some point though

From what I remember I really enjoyed the first one, but that’s about it. I have heard fantastic things about the last two books though!

I really want to read the VE Schwalen series as well! Both a darker shade of magic and her YA series. I tried the Red Queen and wasn’t it to it but kind of want to give it another go.

Oooh, I want to try her YA series as well! I feel like Red Queen is a hit or miss for a lot of people, and it was a hit for me the first time. I’m afraid that if I reread it, it’ll be a miss š. Always give it another go if you want!

*Schwab lol I just realized that autocorrected. And I have serious FOMO lol so I think I’ll try it again

I also have a lot of unfinished series on my TBR. Most of them I’ve read all the books except for the last one which is really annoying — now I won’t get to know what happens in the end. But sometimes I get quite tired of series, you know? Hope you do finish these this year!

I do feel ya about no longer feeling a series. Although, I’m a terribly stubborn person and finish them anyways (like Vampire Academy, I was sick of it after book 2 but I read all 6). It can be difficult finishing a series because you don’t know what happened! š

Vampire Academy is one of the ones I still have to finish! I’d say that I give up on books easily nowadays if I’m not enjoying it. š

Oh that’s funny! That might be good honestly, I’ve actually noticed that I DNF’ed a few books last year.

Oh boy, even if you don’t end up rereading Red Queen, I have a feeling you won’t like Glass Sword. Most of us didn’t … it was very tiresome.

Oh really? I’m going to take a stab and guess by tiresome that there is still an annoying love triangle!

No, well … yes, but it was tiresome because they were traveling a whole lot and nothing was happening and because you didn’t have a map, you had absolutely no idea where they were and why it took so long to get from one place to the other. Also, turns out I don’t actually like Mare … My highlights were the Maven scenes hahaha

Ohhh I see. So it really suffered from second book syndrome, huh? It’s good that you still had highlights though š

They were sparse and cruel, but they were there. I am having my fingers crossed that King’s Cage will be better again, but my motivation to read on is at an all-time low.

Aw that sucks š¦ maybe wait to see what other reviews are saying about King’s Cage? Perhaps if they’re good, you’ll find motivation again!

I will read it anyway, but I just hope that it’s not the final straw to our relationship. haha

I really have to finish the Remnant Chronicles as well. I think I might make it the series I try to finish next month if all goes well. Recaptainshas a full recap on their site; I know I’m going to be reading it (though I do have personal notes) before I restart this series.
And you HAVE to finish The Winner’s Trilogy! It’s one of my favourites š

I’ve that the last book in the Remnant Chronicles is absolutely amazing! Yes, I really want to finish Winner’s Trilogy as well! Since it’s one of your favorites I’ll have to get to it soon š

Daughter of Smoke & Bone is so good and the series is absolutely amazing and I hope you love it as much as I do! I also loved the Remnant Chronicles and read them all in one go, although it took me a while to get through the last book because it is huge! I still have to start The Winner’s trilogy and An Ember In The Ashes, they have been staring at me judgingly on my shelves for a few months now.

Oh I know! Daughter of Smoke and Bone was SO good so I would expect similar results from the series, I might just try to finish it next month. I’ve seen the last book of The Remnant Chronicles in store and it certainly is intimidating because of the size š both first books in The Winner’s Trilogy and An Ember in the Ashes are quite good!

Daughter of Smoke and Bone is wonderful! I read the first book back in 2015, too! It took me a whole year to read the second book and I still haven’t touched the third book even though I own it and I absolutely LOVED the second š And I recently got ADSOM but haven’t gotten around to reading it just yet either. Hopefully I can get to it soon. I’ve heard so many great things about it! I hope you manage to get to those other books soon š

Looks we both need to finish up the DoSaB series! It’s so good, so I don’t know why I haven’t finished it. Oooh ADSOM is SO good, I just finished the second one, and the third one comes out tomorrow. š

That’s my exact thought too haha. They’re wonderful books but I guess just not at the top of our lists for some reason. Oooh that’s exciting! I’ll have to read the first one soon so I can catch up š
