Month In Review | July 2017 AKA The Month I Officially Became A College Student

July.png

Hello everyone! Today is officially the first day of August, and it’s also the first official day that I can call myself a University student. Over the last two days, I’ve been on my college campus for freshmen orientation, and I registered for my first quarter of classes! I’m so happy, but let’s get into all the bookish stuff, shall we?

BOOKS

So, I did manage to get through four books in July, even though one of them was a graphic novel. However, that’s still twice as many as both May and June…. so all things considered I’m not too mad about it.

July Books

  • Hello, Sunshine by Laura Dave | ★★★★☆ | Quirky, wonderful message
  • A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas | ★★☆☆☆ | WAY too long
  • In Real Life by Cory Doctorow & Jen Wang | ★★★★☆ | Heartfelt, geeky, relatable
  • Mirror Me by Tara St. Pierre | ★★★★☆ | Unique concept, enthralling

I’m still reading The Well of Ascension and Lord of Shadows (off and on when I have time), and thank goodness I finally finished ACOWAR. Reading that thing put me in a huge reading slump, and not in a good way. In good news, I will be participating in two readalongs this month with the YA Book Bloggers group on Goodreads! Our contemporary pick of the month is When Dimple Met Rishi, and our fantasy pick of the month is This Savage Song.

BLOGGING

I know I’ve said this the last several months, but this just wasn’t the best month in terms of blogging again. Recently, I simply haven’t been in the same blogging mood that I have in the past. This makes me really sad, but I just can’t seem to kick it! Hopefully once I get into a routine with school, I’ll be able to get back into a proper blogging routine.

OTHER

I do have some fun posts coming up soon, as tomorrow is my 3 year blogging anniversary! I can’t believe I’ve been doing this for so long now, so I owe all of you many thanks in a special post tomorrow. I’m also very close to 1000 followers, which means I think it’s about time I host my first giveaway. Stay tuned for that as well!

LIFE

I mentioned above how I’ve been attending my college orientation, but that’s really the only big thing in my life right now. Other than that, I’ve been relaxing and enjoying the summer. However, that has led to me being a little lazy in terms of reading and blogging… whoops!

If anyone is curious, I’m officially a chemistry pre-major as of today! That means that I’ve declared chemistry as my major, but there are a few classes (aka calculus based physics and organic chemistry) that I need to take to be declared a chem major. I will also be studying pre-med, so lots of fun things coming in the future.

How was your July? What was the favorite book you read this month? Is anyone else beginning to prepare for back to school? Let me know, I love talking with you all!

  1. Sounds like you’ve been busy. My life has been entirely consumed by Brèagha, my new puppy. Thankfully though she is growing up just a little and I don’t have to constantly watch her every move. She is soooo adorable of course. I’m kinda in love. XD

      1. Her name is Brèagha, (pronounced breeya.) It’s Scottish for “beautiful.” She is a Border Collie, which is a breed that comes from the Anglo-Scottish border, so I wanted it to be something Scottish.

  2. So many congratulations are in order! The followers, the blogging anniversary, University. Congrats on all of it!!
And I had the same issue with ACOWAR. It had so much potential, but it dragged on way too long.

  3. It sound like your month has been super busy!! But good luck at University! Also, Mirror Me looks really good! Is it a stand alone or is it part of a series?

  4. Woohoo! University life! I hope you’re enjoying it so far 😀 Are you excited about all your classes? It’s amazing that you’ll be doing both chemistry and pre-med! Wish you all the luck with that combo 😀 And it’s becoming clear to me that ACOWAR is a hit or miss among readers haha. I really liked it, but it had its fair share of issues. In Real Life looks like a cute read! I really like that cover. It kind of reminds me of Steven Universe. Hope to see more of your posts once you get back into a routine!

    1. I’m really excited for all my classes, although most of them are calculus based, which isn’t my favorite lol. I don’t start until the end of September though, so a little more waiting…
Yeah, ACOWAR does seem to be a hit or miss, but I definitely see more positive reviews than negatives. I’ve noticed that some people can be pretty vicious towards bad review of Maas books on Goodreads (so sad). In Real Life was adorable, and super geeky! Basically perfect for me 🙂

      1. Oh wow, that’s a pretty late start. Well, at least you get just a couple more weeks of summer 😉 And sorry about those calculus classes. I feel that pain LOL.
Agreed. Most reviews I read are positive, but the negative ones are pretty harsh, but they bring up some really great points. That’s why I love to read both types of reviews. And yes, Maas seems to be treated pretty horrendously by some readers. It makes me so angry 😦
